~Vikings
Dear Primary Team Contacts/Coaches,

We hope that everyone is having a great summer! We are hard at work getting ready for another exciting season of soccer. We are trying to provide an opportunity for over 4500+ kids to get exercise, learn, and grow each weekend, and we couldn’t do it without your support!

Team census reminder (July 12) – Rec. only
If you are a recreational team, please make sure and fill out a Team Census by July 12:
http://www.formsite.com/vikingleague/form51/index.html

We group team of similar strengths, so that everyone has a positive experience. Ideally teams win half and lose half of their games. Kids learn from both experiences. Halfway through the season, we rebalance the teams, since it is inevitable that some teams wind up stronger and some weaker than we thought.

Schedule requests (July 12)
If you are a Rec. or UH team, all schedule requests are due by July 12:
http://www.formsite.com/vikingleague/schedulingrequests/index.html

We know that conflicts come up and kids lead busy lives now. The purpose of this is to allow teams to request byes, early or late games for specific days because of school carnivals, etc. We give teams this opportunity because we do not allow teams to reschedule games on their own. It is a $100 fine for team forfeits. We put a lot of effort into giving kids and opportunity to play and it is unfair for one team to take that opportunity away from another team.

Please do not send us a wish list. This is a courtesy to help out.

Remember that we try hard to meet all schedule requests, but cannot make promises. (We met about 98% of the requests last year). We will never force another team to take a bye because of a request, only because of an odd number of teams. If you make a bye request, please make sure and give us a back-up suggestion (ie bye or first game of the day, bye or last game of the day).

For U10 and up Rec. teams, we cannot accept schedule requests for the end of season tournament weeks. Except, for U13/U14 teams, now is the time to find out when the majority of your team is taking the SSATs and put in a schedule request. We will try to give only afternoon games during the tournament, but there will be some early games.

Practice Permits (mid-August) and Schedules (end of August)
Please be patient with SF Rec. and Park as they figure out practice permit times for soccer (and all other Fall sports). We expect to receive and distribute the practice permits by mid-August. Likewise, please be patient with us and scheduling. We hope to have the schedules posted by end of August, but that depends on when we get our final field permits. It is a huge task to meet everyone’s requests, so it takes a while.

~Club America vs. Manchester City FC
International soccer powerhouses; England’s Manchester City and Mexico’s Club America are set to play each other in San Francisco on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 5PM PST at AT&T Park as part of the World Football Challenge.   Tickets are exclusively available through AT&T Park at www.tickets.com
With no shortage of funding, Manchester City (CITY) boasts one of the most star-studded rosters of any league after being owned by the ambitious Abu Dhabi Royal family. CITY is set to take Europe by storm this upcoming season after successfully defeating bitter rival, Manchester United, on their way to conquering the English FA Cup and finishing third in the English Premier League, thus providing automatic qualification in to the European Champions League, the most elite soccer competition on the planet.
Mexico’s elite Club America is one of the most storied and legendary clubs south of the border with followers numbering in the millions, in Mexico City alone. This is truly an outstanding matchup for all soccer aficionados around the Bay.
